Countertop measurement discrepancies: How kitchen professionals avoid problems

The worktop doesn't fit? Why & how to fix it.

Monday morning, 8:15 a.m.

Your fitter is at the customer’s construction site. Everything is going smoothly – until he tries to install the worktop. It’s a few millimetres too small. The back panel is stuck. The mood changes. What now?
The kitchen has been planned, manufactured and is actually ready for installation. And yet: the worktop doesn’t fit. And so begins a game that no one wants – with questions of blame, complaints and deadline pressure.

Measurement deviations happen.
Even in top-notch companies.

In theory, everything is clear: the measurements come from the survey, the CNC programme is clean, the material has been checked. And yet, in practice, small deviations creep in:

The problem?
There is no objective proof of how dimensionally accurate the worktop really was

Without a measurement report, every error becomes a matter of debate.

When things get dicey, good documentation is worth its weight in gold. But let’s be honest: who documents every single kitchen worktop these days? And even if they did, calipers and handwritten notes are of little help when the customer sends a photo showing a gaping joint.

The Consequences: Wasted Time and Uncertainty

How to avoid dimensional deviations – 3 tips from practice

Systematically analyse sources of error

What types of deviations occur most frequently in your case? Length? Angles? Milling contours? If you record this regularly, you will recognise patterns – and can adapt processes accordingly.

Check again before packing

A quick final check is particularly worthwhile for panels with special shapes. It may take a few minutes, but it can save hours of discussion.

Automated measurement instead of manual checking

Those who automate their dimensional inspection gain twice: certainty for delivery and reliable data for internal optimisation. Today, this can be done faster than many people think.

If you want to play it safe...

…then simply measure every worktop fully automatically – in a continuous process, directly after processing. With digital measurement reports that nip any discussion in the bud. Many of our customers do this – and report zero measurement complaints since then.
